A credit card security code (sometimes called a CID, CSC, CVV, CV2, CVVC, CVC, V-Code, or CCV) is required for all transactions with American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. The code is an added security feature used by your credit card company to protect you against online fraud. Because the code is not printed on your receipts, it helps ensure that no one is using your credit card information fraudulently. The code is printed on your card, rather than engraved on the plastic like your credit card number.
On American Express cards, the code is the 4 digits on the front of the card. | On Discover, MasterCard, and Visa cards, the code is the last three digits on the back of the card. |
